Rescue

There was no one to rescue them because they lived a long way from Sidon and had no relationship with anyone else. Judges 18:28

The Danites (a tribe of Israel) attacked Laish. They beat them because there was no one to rescue them. Why?

  1. They lived a long way from other people
  2. They had no relationship with anyone else.

I just returned from Guatemala City. It was beyond crowded. Traffic was nuts, people where everywhere; on the streets, in cars, overcrowding buildings. At times it seemed that they lived on top of one another. I’m not sure this is a bad thing. Having people near you through life is the way we were designed to live- otherwise we fail to live life to the full.

Sometimes I can be a hermit. I just want to be alone and do my own things. I can trick myself into thinking that I am self sufficient. There are times when I want to live far from other people and have no relationship with anyone else. Maybe this is acceptable for a season of life, but not for the whole. I know that I will eventually need rescuing. So will you. Let’s live close. Let’s build relationships with each other. It makes the rescuing all the easier.

God, thanks for another reminder that you created us to live together. Help me to live close and have solid relationships with people. Thank you that you came close to us. Thanks for your rescue.
